About two months ago I cut open my laptop power cord between my desk and my desk chair. It sparked up when It was plugged in, so I put some electrical tape around it. It worked fine until a recent travel trip and it stopped. So how do you go about fixing it? Here's a quick lesson I've learned by living:
- Electrical Tape
- Wire Cutter/Splicer
Step One:
Split the wire in two ( if not done so already ).
Step Two:
After the wire is split, strip it so that you get rid of the black outer coating. Underneath the coating you will find a thin circle of silver wire around another white outer coating. What I did was took that silver wire and twisted it so that it looks as if one larger one.
Step Three:
Strip the white outer coating that is left over to expose a bunch of thin wires as one. Do this for both sides.
Step Four:
Twist together the two wires that were exposed after stripping the white coating. Use electrical tape to put around them.
Step Five:
Put the first wire that we "braided" and twist them together with the other side. Surround them with electrical Tape.
Step Six:
Use electrical tape to surround the whole thing. Make sure there are no wires exposed, just to avoid a fire.
